Cleveland Browns make their Draft picks
The Cleveland Browns added 11 players to the 2009 team. They drafted eight players and traded three more.
Here’s a quick look at each drafted player:
Rd. 1 (21st overall) – C Alex Mack (California). Considered the best center in the draft. Expected to immediately start at center or guard.
R d. 2 (36th overall—WR Brian Robiskie (Ohio State). Considered one of the most polished receivers in the draft and is expected to either start or be the third receiver.
Rd. 2 (50th overall)—WR Mohamed Massaquoi (Georgia). Is expected to compete for playing time and contribute as a rookie.
Rd. 2 (52nd overall)—OLB David Veikune (Hawaii). Being looked at to give pressure from the outside linebacker spot.
Rd. 4 (104th overall)—OLB Kaluka Maiava (USC). Versatile linebacker overshadowed by the big three at USC.
Rd. 6 (177th overall)—CB Don Carey (Norfolk State). Played at smaller school where he led the conference in interceptions with five interceptions.
Rd. 6 (191st overall)—CB Coye Francies (San Jose State). CB Projected by some to go as high as the second round. Browns hope to find a diamond in the rough like they did with Brandon McDonald in either Carey or Francies.
Rd. 6 (195th overall)—RB James Davis (Clemson). Rushed for 3,838 yards in his career for 10th best in ACC history.
And here's one for the traded players:
DE Kenyon Coleman—Expected to compete for starting job. Led the NFL in tackles for defensive ends in 2007.
S Abram Elam—Expected to start at safety opposite Brodney Pool. Browns tried to sign him during free agency, but he was restricted and the Jets matched the offer.
QB Brett Ratliff—Looked at as a depth quarterback who knows the system.
Welcome gentlemen to the 2009 Cleveland Browns!!!

Cleveland Browns set their sights on star in Disney's backyard
The Cleveland Browns are proving to be serious strategists for the NFL draft amongst a number of rumors about their picks.
Since trading tight end Kellen "The Warrior" Winslow Jr. to The Buccaneers several weeks ago, there has been a silence in the air from the Cleveland Browns, but no doubt we are "abuzz" as the The NFL Draft approaches.
The Browns are believed to have their sights set on one potential star entering the draft, University of Central Florida cornerback Joe Burnett.
The Browns say they see a lot of Josh Cribbs in Him.
Burnett was voted first-team All-America as a corner, punt-returner and kick-returner this season.
He holds UCF's career record with 16 interceptions. Joe also has been one of the top return specialists in college football the past four years.
Burnett is 5 foot 10, 192 pounds, and UCF secondary coach Gary Blackney says he was pound-for-pound the strongest player on the team.
Let's look forward to the Browns making great decisions when it comes to this year's secondary players, and let's hope we can land a great cornerback like Joe Burnett.
Check out Joe Burnett's stats here:
